The Texas/OU game. One of my most favorite days of the year. So much so, in fact, that I scheduled our wedding around it.
I'm not kidding.
I grew up going to this game. Well, I actually grew up going to all the UT games. We've had season tickets since before I was born... so going to Austin and cheering on the Horns has been a way of life for me.
... and if you really want the whole discussion on why 18-year-old Julie decided to spite her father and to go TCU... well... let's just save that for another day, shall we?
Regardless, if you've never been to the Texas/OU game before, it's hard to explain. There's a long, deep-seeded history between these two teams. There's a lot of hatred too. I could spend hours going on about why OU sucks, but I won't. Because I'm classy like that. And because we had our butts handed to us this year. And then some.
That said, this picture is the actual view from our seats this year. 40 yard-line, 4 rows up. A-mah-zing.
We got to the Fair early (PS: you don't know a state fair until you've been to the State Fair of Texas) and Brett promptly got his Fletcher's corn dog fix. We managed to get a couple of breakfast beers and tour the fairgrounds before heading in for pregame. I'm disappointed to report that I didn't get a funnel cake this year. Depressing, I know. I'm still thinking about it two days later, if that tells you anything.
Despite the horrific game, we had a great time. It was the best weather we've had for Texas/OU in years, I swear. We got to hang with some awesome friends and I even ran into an old friend or two outside the stadium!
All in all, I'd call it a non-football day success. Like I said... the game.... it was abysmal. Sigh.
PS: Many thanks to my Aggie husband for toughing it out in the name of all things fried and football. I know he doesn't really care for this game... but like I said. Corn dogs and breakfast beers. :)
