A couple of weeks ago, I read my friend Katy's post about all things pretty and super sexy:
- Protein powder.
- Probiotics.
- BCAAs.
In fact, her post is the reason I blogged about my chocolate coffee protein shake. Katy = inspiring. And don't you forget it.
So... probiotics. Don't those sound... ridiculous?
Yeah, I guess they kind of do. But after months of IBS-type symptoms (TMI? You'll get over it.), I was starting to get a bit desperate. So after reading Katy's rave reviews, I decided to give these little guys a try. I take one a night, every night, after dinner.
My Personal Experience -- Side Effects 101:
- My face broke out. Actually, that's putting it lightly. My face waged a full-on attack. I've never been prone to serious breakouts... so there's no chance this was a fluke or coinsidence. It was ugly. But I stuck with it. After two weeks, the breakouts wore off. I'm happy to report clear(ish) skin has returned.
- My mouth broke out. You know those little pimply water-filled zit things that can pop up on the inside of your mouth? I got at least two of them, daily, over the same two weeks as the crazy acne war. They didn't hurt or anything; but my body definitely wanted me to know there was some new stuff brewing in my belly.
- No gurgly, unruly stomach problems. None. Whatsoever. I was truly surprised, especially considering everyone I talked to who'd tried probiotics all said I'd have some unpleasant stomach issues at the beginning.
- No more IBS symptoms. No joke. Now, I'm not a doctor -- and I never claim to be -- but if the good bacteria in probiotics help curb the gurgly tummy, gas issues, the majority of the bloat, etc.... well, I guess that means this stuff works. At least, it does for me.
Bottom line.
If you've thought about giving probiotics a shot, I'd encourage you to do so. Don't be afraid of the side effects -- and try to stick it out if you do experience some of them. It's well worth it. I feel much better these days. Happy tummy = Happy Julie.
